Wider than the Sky

Last year I was commissioned by 40 Watt Sun to create artwork for their forthcoming album Wider than the Sky. They’ve had a bit of a struggle but recently announced the release of the album this coming October, to the delight and relief of their many fans! These are the final drawings I completed for the gatefold album cover. Both are simply pencil on paper 615mm x 305mm.

Hyperlocal Cornwall

Last week Ellie Smart of Hyperlocal Cornwall popped by to take a few snaps of me working. She has since featured me on her website which lists small-but-interesting Cornish businesses including artists, family activities, delicious food and more. Especially check out Beth Garnett, fellow MA: Authorial Practice alumni and a whizz with all manner of tools and materials! Also have a lot at Under the Radar, a storytelling event I was involved in late last year. I’m excited about the prospect of further events!

Anyway, you can find the site here.

Thanks Ellie!

Save the Cottage!

This has been my home (on several occasions!), my studio, my space for pursuing a creative career post-studies. Somewhere I met some of the most extraordinary and inspiring people. Somewhere people have dropped into for a day, a week, months at a time. Sometimes they were passing through on some grand adventure, sometimes they had nowhere else to go. Many of you have been to a party there or come around to dinner. Any of you who have supported me as an artist, in turn should support this place as it supported me. Donating won’t just be for the people who currently live there, it is for everyone, for every project, event idea and magnificent feast as yet undreamed of.

There isn’t much time, every penny counts but a lot are needed! Please please give what you can afford and keep one bright in Falmouth from being extinguished. Thank you xx

Songs for Lovers and the Broken Hearted

I was recently invited to illustrate some song lyrics of my choice to be displayed as part of Cultshare’s touring exhibition which launched this Saturday night (indeed, Valentine’s night. Hence the title) at Beerwolf in Falmouth. The show can be seen for the next two weeks at Howl in Penryn before it heads to Strong Adolfo’s via Plymouth College of Art’s exhibition space.

I illustrated “Love is Like a Bottle of Gin” by The Magnetic Fields. By “illustrate” I mean I took the title and wandered off from the lyrics somewhat but nobody has told me off yet…

I am in excellent company, check out http://www.cultshare.co.uk to see the other illustrations.

I’m back…

Instead of waffling about what I did on my holidays and the months since I am going to furnish this post with a bunch of photos documenting recent creative endeavours of varying purpose, significance and competence.

A sculptor took me on a hike to collect soapstone from a remote valley. I used a swiss army knife to make this "Pikorua" (Maori symbol for the union of two people) for my newly engaged sister.
